Health Hazard Imminent in Minna- Nema Warns
The National
Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has raised the alarm on the exposure of
Minna residents to several health hazards through uncovered filthy soakaways
and open defecation.
Director general of NEMA, Alhaji Mohammed Sani Sidi, said this at the weekend
during a sensitisation workshop on building resilient communities and
community- managed early warning system organised by the agency for communities
and stakeholders in the state.
He expressed concern over such primitive practices that has made the people
vulnerable to diseases, saying “this could result in the outbreak of cholera
epidemic and other air borne diseases in Minna any time”.
He disclosed that Saiko, Agwan Kaje, Makera, and Kpakungu communities are
mostly the high risk areas where residents live below average standard hygiene
practices.
According to him it has reached very dangerous dimension in the areas because
of high population density.
